Three Expert-Driven Types of Blogs

In the mist of Covid-19 (Corona Virus), we at JDS WebDesign are hoping everyone is safe, washing your hands frequently, sneezing and coughing in your elbow, and practicing social distancing.  Over the next several weeks, we are planning on blogging about how to make your website more business friendly.  We will have some tutorials on our favorite plugins and features, which will make your site more efficient.

We have discussed why businesses should blog. We have discussed the top reason to blog. We have discussed why blogging is important.  But we have not discussed the different types of blog posts. While there are numerous, we are going to look at some expert-driven blog posts.  Specifically, we will be looking at Expert Roundups, Case Studies, and Interviews.  While these might appear to be types of podcasts, does it feel like everyone has a podcast, remember blogging was around way before podcasts?  Just remember books were around before radio…plays before television…and blogs before podcasts.

Expert Roundups

What are expert roundups?  It is just a panel discussion with a couple of experts. The experts do not have to be bloggers, but they do need to have a lot of experience in their field of endeavor.  Try to have a blog post about a potential pain point for your typical customer.  Put together some experts to discuss the pain point and get their points of view.  Remember, you are not trying to solve the issue. You are only bringing forth some experts to provide their opinion on the topic.

You will need to select a topic of interest for your target audience.  Do not select something that is popular today, but will run out of steam in a couple of seasons.  Look for something that is a pain point yesterday, today, and tomorrow.  Find some experts to discuss the issues.  Look for a couple of folks with different approaches, and let your readers determine which approach makes sense to them.  Do not try to determine a winner and a loser.  This is not a competition.  You are only providing opinions. Put the blog post together to allow the reader to view each approach.  Finally, tag your expert on their social media platforms.  And put something on your social medial platforms.

Case Studies

Case studies are not boring blog posts. Case studies, done correctly, are one of the best blog posts to drive traffic to your site.  You will need to find the right client or user.  Someone, who is willing to discuss their pain points and struggles. Next, you will need to have a conversation about their pain points.  Discuss how this pain point caused a struggle with your client or user.  Then you will need to create a problem solution to an outcome blog post. Write in full detail about the problem and how it affected your client or users.  Write in full detail, the solution and how it was created.  Lastly, outline the outcome.  The time it took to achieve the desired outcome and any unforeseen problems or issues.

Interview

You can create interview blog posts and they can be as effective as a podcast.  The most pivotal item for an interview blog post is finding the right interviewee.  You are not looking for an expert or case study client, but someone who is very interesting.  Someone who will provide interesting quotes and conversation for your viewers.  You will need to make the connection and formulate questions to ask. Make sure you prepare for the interview.  Stay away from awkward or irrelevant questions. Remember you are trying to create expert-driven blog posts.  Lastly, this is the only blog post in which you might need to record the interview and have it translated into a blog post.

Conclusion

Look at some other options to drive traffic to your website and showcase your expertise to your target audience.  While each of these might take a little more work, looking for experts, finding the best case studies, and asking someone if you can interview them… are really great ways to drive traffic to your site.  If you are looking for web design products, then feel free to contact us at 678-718-5489 or info@jdswebdesign.biz.
