Posting is NOT Marketing on Social Media Platforms

 

In the midst of Covid-19 (Corona Virus), we at JDS WebDesign are hoping everyone is safe, washing their hands frequently, sneezing and coughing in their elbow, and practicing social distancing.  Over the next several weeks, we are planning on blogging about how to make your website more business-friendly.  We will have some tutorials on our favorite plugins and features, which will make your site more efficient.

 

The other day, one of our clients was complaining about the limited number of visitors on their social media platforms.  They were viewing the analytics, and on each of the platforms, the numbers ranged from low 20s to mid-50s.  They wanted to reach out to us to figure out why no one was responding to their post.  This was a non-profit organization.  The answer was simple, POSTING IS NOT MARKETING !!!

We looked at what the client was posting. Mostly events, some gallery pictures, stories about what was going on in the organization, and spotlighting success of feel-good stories.  So the content was really good, however, they were missing what most posters do not understand.  Marketing centers around three items.  Lead Generators. Lead Nurture. Lead Conversion.  If your marketing does not have these three items, then you are doing it all wrong.

Lead Generator

What is a lead generator?  Lead Generators are leads that follow you on social media platforms.  You have to add value to your post and help solve a pain point.   Instead of having a list of events, use story guidelines to showcase how your event helped someone.  Make sure (and this is VERY IMPORTANT) all your post offer some type of email capture.  The goal of your social media posts is to get someone to follow your organization.  One of the greatest mistakes is believing that your social media platform is going to be around forever.  Make sure you have an email capture and add value by offering some type of ebook, an early sample of a blog post, and or both to your audience.  Do not (if you are an e-commerce store) send out daily emails about sales or discounts.  You are disvaluing your services and or products.  Generally, this is not a good campaign strategy.

Lead Nurture

Lead nurturing, if done correctly can take your organization to the next level.  Once you get the lead, then make sure you are adding value to that lead.  Send them solutions to pain points in terms of a free ebook or blog post. Write success stories.  Highlight events and the missions behind the events.  Feel free to showcase how much work it takes to put into the event while asking for volunteers or donations. While in the nurturing stage, you should feel free to add donations or buy buttons.  Just do not make it seem like the stage is just for buying or donating to the organization.

Lead Conversion

Lead conversion is closing the sale.  Remember closing the sale, does not end the relationship.  It only elevates the relationship.  You should continue to send assistance with helping your visitors solve their pain points.  Your mission should be to create mini-ambassadors for your organizations.  Many of our clients are recommendations from current clients.  To assist with a particular pain point, these future clients will join our email list.  They will receive a free ebook about a particular pain point.  Next, we will look to add value to them or their organization.  Seek out how we can help them with regard to Marketing, Web Design, App Development, and/or Branding.  We look to nurture our relationship into many conversions.

Conclusion
