Guide to Setting Up Your Organizational’s Social Media

In the midst of Covid-19 (Corona Virus), we at JDS WebDesign hope everyone is safe, washing their hands frequently, sneezing and coughing on their elbow, and practicing social distancing.  Over the next several weeks, we plan on blogging about making your website more business-friendly.  We will have some tutorials on our favorite plugins and features, which will make your site more efficient.

When you mention Social Media, some organizations go into a deep freeze.  They view social media for all the negative behavior of a few and some bots.  We are trying to educate our perspective on the advantages of social media.  By the way, social media platforms are not going anywhere.  We did post about the risk of being on social media and how to overcome them  Social media platforms, such as Facebook Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok can be useful resources to provide information to your visitors. Some basic guidelines include:

Creating Social Media Strategy

Your organization should have a social media strategy.  This strategy should outline goals, and objectives.  How many platforms are your organization going to participate in?  How many postings are your organization going to do, and how often are you going to post? What is the end goal, in terms of followers?  Who is going to be responsible for posting?  What are the guidelines for the type of posts? What areas are off limits…ie politics, crime, etc.? This could create an opportunity for someone, and most, social media strategists are a paid position.

Set up platform

Your organization will have to set up an official page.  Some social media platforms have a specific way to verify the users. Your organization will need to verify its page.  Your page should not be an individual page, but a business page.  Make sure that you have a business email to associate with your social media platform.  It is okay to set up multiple platforms.  There are many tools that will allow your organization to schedule posts on multiple platforms.

Content

Content. Content. Content. Your organization wants to share quality content.  The content should be engaging.  Livestream events.  Make video testimonials. Provide information about how your organization is creating change in people’s lives. Encourage participation and have call-to-action buttons, with the intention of allowing visitors to join your organization and assist with your growth.  Make sure that your social media policy is transparent.  It should be downloadable to any new visitors.  While social media platforms are free, your policy should have specific rules against bullying, language, and exposure to your organization.

Ads

Run ads to promote your organization.  Generally, social media ads are not expensive. Create video rolls.  Video rolls are ads on YouTube What are video rolls? Have you ever Google something, and when you went to YouTube, the answer to your Google request was a video ad?  That is a video roll. Can you imagine the power of someone, who Googles “Cancer”?  Reads up on some Cancer Organizations near them, then they go to YouTube and a video ad of your Cancer Organization begins to play.  Great way to gain new visitors.

Conclusion

Social media platforms are free.  However, most organizations do need to hire an outside company to oversee the social media strategy. Assist with creating content guidelines.  Outline goals and objectives.  Set up the platforms.  Measure the analytics. And provide reports of the growth and areas of missing growth. We can assist your organization with a social media strategy and plan to grow your organization. If you have any questions, then feel free to contact us at info@jdswebdesign.biz or 678-718-5489.
