Common Interview Questions

In the midst of Covid-19 (Corona Virus), we at JDS WebDesign hope everyone is safe, washing their hands frequently, sneezing and coughing on their elbow, and practicing social distancing.  Over the next several weeks, we plan on blogging about making your website more business-friendly.  We will have some tutorials on our favorite plugins and features, which will make your site more efficient.

As I have mentioned in many past blog posts, most of my prospective clients come from referrals. Not being a huge job board subscriber, I am not into short-term relationships.  Creating long-term relationships with prospective clients has always been a focal point of my agency.  So how do you create these long-term relationships, one way is to not rush to provide a price for the project.  Slowing down your process is super important.  Get to know your client.  Find out their problems and pains.  Look for solutions and how to keep these problem pains from coming back.

A few months ago, my content specialist accompanied me to a prospective client meeting.  Unaware my content specialist was taking notes throughout the meeting.  All parties will remain nameless.  So a sneak peeks into my design process, after a complimentary phone conversation.  The prospective client wanted to meet to see if we would be a good fit.  Several issues were present on the prospective client’s website…Slider on the home page.  No call to action message.  No though-provoking message.  No site map.  The navigational system was not clear.  After our complimentary meeting, many unknown questions needed to be answered.

Interview Session

The meeting attendance was the chief executive officers and marketing manager, along with my content specialist and myself.  We forwarded a questionnaire and after receipt of the questionnaire…the target audience was established.  Need to make sure the prospective client understood, who their target audience was.  Interesting the prospective client wanted to interview us.  Not an issue, they were being invoiced for this meeting along with the time needed to present our recommendations.

*Can you tell us a little bit about your agency?

In my elevator speech, the expanded version was told.  Providing information about how my agency was started.  My experience level.  My staff.  The reason why my agency is different from others.  My client list.  Relationships which has been established.  Our branding process.  Know. Like. Trust. Or KLT Marketing process.

What makes you different from other agencies?

Our design process. My staff.  My clients.  My success stories.  My problem stories (made them very short). Discuss what the prospective client can expect.  What we will do.  What we need.  When we need them.  Communication.  Tools, which we use.  What the prospective client can expect during the design process?  What happens after the launch?

How this is not a … here is the contract…give me a check…your site is ready…is it pretty!!!  See you in a couple of years.  We identify your target audience.  We discuss your pain points.  We provide a written plan of action.  The prospective client can hire us to solve their pain points or look for another client.

Time frame

We provide a time frame for the design process.  We provide a start time for the KLT Marketing plan.  We provide data on how the success of the site.  After the conversation, the chief executive officer asked how long before we would provide him with the strategic plan.  Typically within one week.  We sent an invoice.  It was paid and the plan was sent, with a notice about the total cost of the project.  How long the project would take?  When we would be able to start the project?

A call was placed to the prospective client.  The marketing manager advised us that we were a little higher than what they had budgeted.  No negotiation on this end. Wish them luck and advised them the quote would be honored for the next six months.
