Advertise Media Kit, and why your organization’s podcast needs one?

As we get closer to launching our podcast or re-launching it, we are recognizing some basic mistakes that we did initially.  One of the biggest mistakes, we made was to not create an advertising media kit. So what is an advertising media kit, according to The Podcast Host, an advertising media kit is a package of information about your podcast that’s easy to share and consume. Think of it as an appetizer sampler platter. It’s a condensed, snack-sized, flavorful version of your work, that makes listeners (and sponsors) want more.”

In layman’s terms, an advertising media kit is a mission statement, an analytics report, a sponsorship or partnership, an advertising type, and contact information.

Mission Statement

Your organization’s advertising media kit should have information about who your organization is and what your podcast is going to be about.  This should be the first thing in your media kit.  This will allow any potential sponsor or partner to know upfront if your values match and if your organization is going to be a good fit. This is an easy way to eliminate companies that do not share your organization’s values and beliefs.

Analytics

This is going to be an ongoing report, and your organization will need to make constant changes to this report.  Your organization should report the number of downloads, and even more importantly the types of individuals, who are downloading your episodes.  Your organization should be able to report the number or percentages of men and women, age group (if possible), and any other stat that would be important to your target sponsor or partner.  Educational level, employment status, marriage status, demographics, etc. We would strongly recommend premium podcast hosting, that employs a robust analytic tool.  Some good podcast hosting platforms include Buzzsprout, Captivate, Podbean, bCast, and Libsyn.

Sponsorship or partnership

Your organization should list all sponsorships and partnerships. It is very important to list all companies involved with your organization’s podcast.  This is going to be a growing list, and your organization should keep the list up-to-date.  Make sure that your organization places all sponsors’ and partner’s websites and any special offers on your organization’s advertising media kit.

Ad Type

We would recommend your organization list all advertisement types that are offered.  Does your organization offer pre-roll, mid-roll, and post-roll ads? Are these ads pre-recorded, or host recorded? List your prices for all ads, some podcasts charge per number of downloads, and others have a set price. This is going to be your organization’s choice. Your podcast could have ads for interviews, sponsor episodes, and giveaways. The only limits are in your imagination.

Contact Information

Your organization should have its contact information available.  This information should include a contact person, that person’s email, phone, all your organization’s social media platforms, and your organization’s digital platform. Your organization’s advertising media kit can be located on your organization’s digital platform.
