Why EVERY Non-Profit needs a Digital Presence?

 

In the midst of Covid-19 (Corona Virus), we at JDS WebDesign hope everyone is safe, washing their hands frequently, sneezing and coughing on their elbow, and practicing social distancing.  Over the next several weeks, we plan on blogging about making your website more business-friendly.  We will have some tutorials on our favorite plugins and features, which will make your site more efficient.

 

We are asked many times weekly why our organization needs a digital presence. Our response, which might surprise some, is do you fully understand what a digital presence is? Most think it is just a website or social media platform.  A digital presence is the number 1 reason, why your marketing and fundraising opportunities will exist.  The ability to grow your non-profit is very difficult without a digital presence.  And it is more than just a website and social media.

So what are the elements of an effective digital presence?  It begins with a mobile-friendly website, and if possible a mobile application.  It includes an email newsletter, which is up-to-date and provides relevant information to your target audience.  A consistent social media platform, that has a relevant posting on a weekly if not daily basis. Paid digital advertisement.  Organic advertisement using search engine optimization techniques.

Website

Websites are created for one of three reasons, to showcase a product, to explain a service, and/or to provide information.  Your website should provide your mission and reason.  It does not have to be on the home page, but it should not be a hard puzzle to figure out.  You should seek every opportunity to turn a visitor into a lead.  No visitor is excepted.

Email Newsletter

Your greatest asset is your email list.  These are a group of individuals, who have to provide you with their email.  They look forward to receiving emails from you about your organization. They want to know what is going on and how can they assist your organization. They are your VIP list and you should treat them as such.

Social Media

Social media platforms are not for your grandchildren, it is an effective way that Generation Y to communicate.  You need a presence. If you are not able to create and update on a regular basis, then hire a social media expert.  Do not look for your grandchildren, unless they are a professional. Look for someone, who is going to create a buzz for your organization. Look for someone, who knows what a hashtag is.

Paid Digital Ads

Creating a website is not the catch-all be-all for visitors to find you on google.  You are going to need to create a budget and have paid digital ads. You will need to know where your target audience exists.  Maybe you need Facebook ads, Google ads, Twitter ads, Instagram ads, or even Linkedin ads.  Your ads should be where your target audience is…

Organic ads or search engine optimization

You will need to have a search engine optimization (SEO) plan. While paid or PPC (paid per click) is a good option, you can drive some amazing numbers to your website by having a good SEO plan. Hire an SEO expert.  Make sure your website is taking advantage of every opportunity or visitor.

Conclusion
