What is Text to Give Donations?

In the midst of Covid-19 (Corona Virus), we at JDS WebDesign hope everyone is safe, washing their hands frequently, sneezing and coughing on their elbow, and practicing social distancing.  Over the next several weeks, we plan on blogging about making your website more business-friendly.  We will have some tutorials on our favorite plugins and features, which will make your site more efficient.

Text to give donations is not a new concept or tool. But many non-profit and faith-based organizations are beginning to inquire about this digital form of monetization.  So what is text to give?  It is a digital tool that allows users to give to your organization directly from their mobile phones. Many of us have seen digital commercials that say text “Give” to #12345.

So how can you have a text to give a donation?

While we would recommend a mobile application, as it would make the process very easy.  You can use several donation solutions, which allow banking solutions (such as Venmo), payment gateway (such as Stripe), and a customize SMS Messaging system (such as Twillo).  Needing all three of these to work in conjunction, is why we would recommend creating a mobile application.

What are some great strategies for text to give donations?

You can use digital print media with call-to-action numbers.  You can put fundraising information in the traditional advertisement. You can use social media to broadcast your text to give donation information. You could include the text to give information at your next event.  You can have it on your website under the tag how to support your organization. It should be a part of your funnel and the information should be forwarded to everyone in your funnel.

Okay, an unknown secret…

Venmo is probably the most popular banking application and is owned by PayPal.  PayPal is a payment gateway company.  You can add Venmo to your mobile application and connect it to your PayPal account.  You can add many SMS Messaging services (such as Twillo) to your PayPal account. See how you can add this as a service to your potential clients.

Conclusion

The donation game has changed.  You need to check all possible revenue streams and make sure your target audience can assist you with your efforts to make the world a better place.  Do not use only the mail us a check strategy. Or we have a PayPal button on our website.  You need to continue to look at all avenues to create donations and revenue for all your projects and events. We love assisting non-profit and faith-based organizations.  You can reach out to us either by email, info@jdswebdesign.biz, or by phone at 678-718-5489.
