What every Non-Profit Website should have?
We specialize in creating non-profit organizations’ websites. There are five (5) essential elements that are needed on every non-profit organization’s website. This blog post is not going into Search Engine Optimization or marketing. These are some basic elements, which should be present on every non-profit organization’s website.
Secure Socket Layer(SSL)
The secured socket layer is the digital certificate that provides authentication for a website and enables an encrypted connection. Short for Secure Sockets Layer, SSLs communicate to web users that a connection is safe and secure. When a website holds an SSL certificate, a padlock icon appears on the left side of the URL address bar signifying that the connection is secure. Additionally, sites will display an “HTTPS” address instead of an “HTTP” address. In order to receive an SSL certificate, the web service host must demonstrate ownership of the domain to the certificate authority at the time of certificate issuance. This authentication process is much like sealing a letter in an envelope before sending it through the mail. Secure websites help web users protect their sensitive information, like credit cards or Social Security numbers. Today’s digital citizens face many emerging threats, and making sure the websites you visit are secure is one important way you can protect your information.
Donation Form
Please do not place a PayPal icon or button on your site and expect visitors to click and make donations. This does not work!!! Your donation form should be tied to a donation campaign. This campaign needs to have a mission or purpose. The campaign should have a start and ending date, but the ending date does not have to be a hard date. The donation form should not be overly complicated. Your organization does want to collect names and emails, but if the donor does not want to provide that information. The form should be capable of defaulting to anonymous status. The donation form should be connected to a well-known payment gateway, such as PayPal, Stripe, Authorize.net, or Square. Make sure that you still provide the option to forward checks or make cash on delivery, depending on your servicing areas and type of campaign.
Call to Action
Calls to action are short messages used to let the visitor know, what is important. Make sure your organization’s website has a call to action for your donation campaign. This section could be used to provide your mission and why your organization has created the donation campaign. The call to action needs to be above the fold and not on a timer. The call to action should greet all visitors once they come to your organization’s website.
Goals and Progress
This is a very important section and should be next to your donation form. Provide your organization’s goal and progression toward your goal. Remember this could be your introduction to a potential donor, and most want to work with an organization, that is transparent. Showcase how close your organization is to reaching its goal. Make sure your organization’s website can make real-time changes, nothing worse than someone making a donation, and the progression bar does not move.
Social Interaction
Using social media to promote your organization’s campaign and providing a way to thank donors. This is an awesome way to grow your organization’s campaign. Your organization can also provide some well-appreciated recognition to donors. Your organization can or can not provide the amount of the donation, but recognize the donor.
Conclusion
These are some basic ways to grow your organization’s website. Make sure your organization’s donation campaign has these basic elements.
