What are SMART Goals and How they can take your organization to the next level?
In the mist of Covid-19 (Corona Virus), we at JDS WebDesign are hoping everyone is safe, washing your hands frequently, sneezing and coughing in your elbow, and practicing social distancing. Over the next several weeks, we are planning on blogging about how to make your website more business friendly. We will have some tutorials on our favorite plugins and features, which will make your site more efficient.
What are SMART Goals? SMART Goals are the best way to measure your goals. They force you to have goals that are achievable and quantifiable. Which are the two best ways to measure goals? So what does SMART mean? S is for Specific. Your goals should be measurable, achievable, and quantifiable. M is for Measurable. You should be able to track your progress and know when a goal has been accomplished. A is for Attainable. Is your goal something that can be accomplished? R is for Relevant. Your goals should directly benefit you, your organization, or your website. Finally, the T is for Timebound. Your goal should be measured over a specific timeframe to help quantify and keep the focus on the goal.
Well, let’s look at how SMART Goals can be used. If you were looking to grow your email subscribers by creating an e-book in exchange for your visitors’ email, then let’s look at how SMART Goal could help to accomplish this mission. Remember SMART Goals can consist of more than one variable, and this is a good example of how to measure something that a website should be attempting to accomplish.
SMART Goals for E-Book
Specific Goal – You should set a specific time to complete an E-Book with minimum words, and graphics for your target audience. This E-Book should help to solve a pain point for your target audience.
Measurable Goal – You should set a goal for the number of visitors, who download the E-Book. Set a specific percentage of the number of visitors to your website, and make sure you are reviewing your analytics on your website.
Attainable Goal – You need to complete the E-Book. You might need to block off specific time to write and locate graphics for your E-Book.
Relevant Goal – The E-Book should identify a pain point for your target audience. This should benefit you, in which, the E-Book should assist you in obtaining an expert position in your industry.
Timebound Goal – Set a goal of when the E-Book needs to be completed. Write down the date, and do not change it.
Now you have created an AWESOME E-Book within 30 days and it solves a pain point for your visitors and/or potential clients. How can you move the E-Book to an Email Capture Platform? Establish some SMART Goals for your email capture platform incorporating the E-Book as your call to action.
SMART Goals for Email Capture
Specific Goals – You should set a target number of emails to capture. Be aggressive and try to capture 500 or 1,000 emails.
Measurable Goals – You will need to set up a reliable email capture. There are plenty of examples of email captures, such as Mailchimp, Constant Contact, and Mail Poet to name a few. Make sure you select an email capture so that you can view the number of emails at any given moment.
Attainable Goals – You will need to make sure that your search engine optimization and keywords are located on your landing page. You will need to be able to check the number of visitors on your landing page. You could use social media to assist with driving traffic to your website. You want to make sure that the specific goal is an attainable one.
Relevant Goals – You should make sure that the emails receive the E-Book. If you are able to send out a funnel or workflow to stay engaged with your target audience, then that would be great. As it would allow ou to continue to make sure your goals are relevant to you and your potential client.
Timebound Goals – You should set a specific timeframe. If you say the timeframe is 90 days, then make sure you stick with the timeframe. It is always okay to state that the E-Book is available until a specific date, and after the date, then I would recommend taking down the landing page.
