Welcome back to work | web designer life
This past weekend, I like about six hundred (600) web designers, developers, hobbyists, and others were at WordCamp Atlanta 2016. In my attempt to give back to the wordpress community, I volunteer by handing out t-shirts, giving directions, working in the happiness bar, and trying to assist with general and sometimes not so general questions. It was an AWESOME experience.
I was greeted with 37 task/emails on Monday. Besides being a free lance web designer, I own a support company. Most of the task, were general (not much thinking required) requests. Could I upload a blog post? Could an image be swamped out? Could I add a new member to my website? What are my analytic numbers? How can I add video to my site? Does my site have an SSL? What is an SSL? Do I need an SSL?
After handling some of my parental duties, I headed to my favorite watering hole (coffee shop). It was a nice cold (sweater type of day) day. I order a TALL Mocha and egg sandwich and dug in. With my head down, I began working on each of my task. By noon, I was completely finished. I checked on a project, which I am going to launch in a few weeks. I had asked for some content and images. The client had provided me with the content and images. YES! I populated the content and images.
It was a good day! It was going to be a good day, because I was too tired to deal with any confrontational issues. I did get to reflect on wordcamp. I meet some great people. I meet several wordpress entrepreneurs. I got to discuss hosting with my favorite, siteground. I got to check out some of godaddy‘s latest products. I spoke to Blue Host, the conversation was about their hosting issues. I spoke to Woocommerce folks, who invited me to their conference in Austin (a few weeks from now, for $600). I spoke to ClickHost, we are working on a long term relationship. I got to speak with several MeetUp leaders. I spoke to bloggers, designers, and developers.
Wow!!! I was tired. I received a call from a faith based organization web designer. She was needing help with adding content. I gave her a few pointers and she was good. I reached out to a e-commerce owners, she had changed hosting companies. I check out her site. I noticed her SSL was not populated. I advised her to check on it.
The life of a wordpress web designer, which could be boring to some…but it is just right for me!!!
