Turning your love into a non profit organization. During the past year, a lot of people have lost their jobs and some their careers with the pandemic. Covid-19 has change many lives, and not just from the standpoint of wearing a mask, socially distancing, and zoom meeting. Many people have lost their lives, some have lost love ones and many are struggling during with basic needs. Instead of focusing on what is bad during this pandemic, focus on turning a passion into a non-profit. Use the following steps to assist with your transition.
Do not be afraid to ask for help
Do not be afraid to ask for help? There are many facebook communities in the non profit sector. MeetUp is another good resource to find a good community and support. Look for similar non profit organization and ask questions, find a good mentor. Keep your mission in mind, when you are looking for help. Most non-profit organization are trying to help solve a problem or bring attention to an issue…keep that your focus as you reach out for help. Do not worry about what others are going to think? Everyone was once a start up….
Find what works for you
Find what works for you. Look for something that you are passionate about. Do not start a non profit to gain wealth? It does not work, and your mission will become clear to your supporter and donors. You have to have a passion for improving something and that has to be your mission. Find that mission and embrace it.
Build a village not just a business
Build a village and not a business. Your non profit should focus on who you are helping and not your bottom line (finances). You need to continue to focus on how your organization can help someone. Did you create something positive today? Was your message on point today? Is someone better off today, then they was yesterday? Create a village of supports to voice your message and get out it out to the masses.
Tell a good story
Tell a good story. Always be willing to discuss, how your non profit organization began? If you are not a good story teller, then that is fine. Just make sure that your passion comes through every time, you discuss how your non profit was started. Why you work so hard on your non profit? The more you tell your story, the more people will be able to gravitate to your organization.
Do one thing and do it the best
Do one thing and do it the best. Try not to solve all the world’s problem. Find one issue and focus on that one. You can always look at other issues down the road. The most important thing is to focus on one issue with laser focus. Make your organization’s mission about that one issue.
Friends are your best public relations
Friends are your best public relation spokespersons. Tell all your friends that you are starting your non profit. Do not worry, some will be excite. Others will not be excited. But tell everyone…your family, your church members, neighbors, friends, coworkers, etc. Let your inner circle hold your bullhorn and announce to the world, what you are trying to accomplish.
Finally
Lastly, have fun. Love the journey. Document the journey. Get you a group of good folks to lean on during tough times. And always remember why you create the non profit?
