Sound Advice – Lifestyle of Web Designer

Sound Advice – Lifestyle of Web Designer.  I was at WordCamp Asheville 2016. It was held in Asheville, North Carolina on the campus of University of North Carolina at Asheville.  It was held the weekend of June 3rd – 6th. I had the pleasure/honor of attending a session called “Dealing with problem clients”.  The speaker was Nathan Ingram. I had heard Nathan at WordCamp Atlanta 2016.

Nathan is a very natural conversational speaker. He will ask questions, that most of us have encounter.  He will tell us no one is an expert, we are all learning.  He has been creating web sites for a long time.  He has seen just about everything.  I will not give a complete overview of his presentation.  It has not been uploaded on WordPress.tv, but I am sure it will be within the next couple of weeks.

Nathan asked us to write down one (1) or two (2) things to change about our business? And more importantly put them into practice.  I am going to blog a lot more.  I plan on creating at least 50 blog post in 2016. My weekends are free, so hopefully I can create two (2) or three (3) and schedule them for the upcoming week (something that I am doing with this blog).

Second thing that Nathan told us (the presentation was about dealing with problem clients, but he had some GREAT points off topic), every Friday you should email all your clients (with pending projects) and write three sentences (topics). The first sentence(s) should outline past status (of the project).  The second sentence(s) should outline present or current status (of the project).  The final or third sentence(s) should outline future status (of the project).

I sent out four emails on current projects.  I outline where the project began.  I outline where the project was at. I outlined where the project was going.  I did this on a Saturday.  On Monday, I was greeted with four very positive responses and thank you notes.

Sometimes, I make this free lance thing harder than it should be…hopefully you can learn from my mistakes.
