So when did Innovation become a bad word

In the mist of Covid-19 (Corona Virus), we at JDS WebDesign are hoping everyone is safe, washing your hands frequently, sneezing and coughing in your elbow, and practicing social distancing.  Over the next several weeks, we are planning on blogging about how to make your website more business friendly.  We will have some tutorials on our favorite plugins and features, which will make your site more efficient.

According to Wikipedia, Innovation is often also viewed as the application of better solutions that meet new requirements, inarticulate needs, or existing market needs.   This is accomplished through more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or business models that are readily available to markets, governments, and society, markets, governments and society.  The term “innovation” can be defined as something original and more effective and, as a consequence, new that “breaks into” the market or society.

The other day, we were approached to create a huge project.  It was a client referral base on our innovation and unique design.  Going through our design process.  We forward a questionnaire.  Attempting to determine the client’s target audience and reason for the website.  We was greet with how much and can you send me a proposal.  The short answer was no.

We are innovators

Creating solutions for our client’s is our main focus.  Not receiving payment (even though we need it to stay in business).  No awards are displayed on our site (yes we have received some).  Many of our recent and big projects have not made it to our portfolio (this is going to change in the next couple of weeks).  We really want to focus on creating solutions to client.  Understanding the design market, and our client’s industry is so important.

After we stated no.  The prospective was very agitated.  Asking for $5,000.00 retainer and contract to not share or shop our design process around, we was greeted with a “not interested”.  Reality is we was not interested.  Building a clientele looking for problem solving partner is our goal and mission.

Ways to be innovators

Staying on top of our game as web designer, and brand developers. Reading books and blogs on a regular basis. Writing on a daily basis.  Engaging with our target audience, whether at local Meetups, WordCamps, and other business related events.  Speaking, and volunteering at events.  Making sure we have a present on social media (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, and Instagram).  Building our community.

If you are looking for an innovator, and problem solving design agency, then we are available.  Innovation is not a bad word.  Unless you are looking to be re designing your site in the six month, then innovator web design agency should be on the top of your list.
