How to become more productive
In the mist of Covid-19 (Corona Virus), we at JDS WebDesign are hoping everyone is safe, washing your hands frequently, sneezing and coughing in your elbow, and practicing social distancing. Over the next several weeks, we are planning on blogging about how to make your website more business friendly. We will have some tutorials on our favorite plugins and features, which will make your site more efficient.
Becoming productive is critical to all of us. Unproductive time or work is the foundation of most failures. Here are a couple of techniques that I use to stay productive, not busy. Being productive is not the same as being busy. Busy is filling up your time with something to do, being productive is working on completion of a project or task. We stay productive by doing the following:
Having a weekly and daily plan
Weekly plan is created on Monday. It is viewed daily, just for the purpose of identifying task for a specific day, preferably today. We are allowed to have no more than 10 task on the weekly plan. Which means at least 2 tasks are to be set for completion daily.
Daily Plan. Create a schedule of task to be completed. This schedule should only be for 1/2 of your day, or at least 4 hours of the day. View business emails (which also means to complete or respond to ) from 8:00am – 8:30am, View task assignment portal (we use Asana) to get daily project assignments from 8:30am – 9:00am. While it does not take 30 minutes to review our daily task, the time is used to set up when each task will be completed. Return calls from 9:00am – 9:30am. Review blog post 9:30am – 10:00am, check grammar make sure they post. Most of our post are schedule for 10:00am.
Three major task are placed on our schedule daily. These task can come from our assignment portal. They might come from a return call. They might come from our sales tunnel. They might come from a request from one of our marketing strategies, which could be from our blog post, podcast, affiliate links, or speaking engagements.
Three Major Task Daily
Most major task can take up to a couple of hours to complete. If you do not allow more than 3 major task, then you do not run out of time or energy. Major task can be creating major page or sub page of new project. Uploading content for a new project. Working on a logo or creating a logo concept. Establishing search engine optimization keywords or plan of action. Writing a new blog post for the following day. Reading a blog post to assist with the development of new skill.
Pomodure Technique
The pomodure technique is a time management system. It was designed for students and creative minds. It is a time management system, in which you block time to work on a specific task. You block your task down to intervals of 25 minutes with break of 5 minutes in between. You work hard for 25 minutes with no source of distractions (no television in the back ground, music, and you constantly work on the specific task), then you provide yourself with a 5 minute break (for the bathroom, your favorite song, television briefly, check out what is for lunch or dinner…it is a reward time). This technique can be used for your daily major task.
Inconclusion
Staying productive is hard. You have to set up some techniques and measure them. Good luck in your endeavor. If you know anyone, who is looking for a faith based or non profit organization website, then please contact us at info@jdswebdesign.biz.
