How to avoid “Burnout”?

In the mist of Covid-19 (Corona Virus), we at JDS WebDesign are hoping everyone is safe, washing your hands frequently, sneezing and coughing in your elbow, and practicing social distancing.  Over the next several weeks, we are planning on blogging about how to make your website more business friendly.  We will have some tutorials on our favorite plugins and features, which will make your site more efficient.

How to Avoid Burnout?  What is burnout? According to Merriam-Webster, Burnout is an exhaustion of physical or emotional strength due to prolonged stress or frustration. Burnout has happened to most of us, but how can you recognize it and ways to manage it?

7 Ways to recognize Burnout

*Unmanageable workload
*Perfectionist Personality
*Unreasonable Time Pressure
*Lack of Support
*Poor Work vs. Life Balance

All of these issues are driven by you, which is hard to recognize for most of us.  Look at some indicators, do you lack concentration?  Are you experiencing an unusual amount of headaches or stomach issues?  Has your high blood pressure levels become an issue?  Do you use drugs and/or alcohol more frequently?  Are you lashing out at family or friends more frequently?

Ways to manage Burnout

*Take time out – schedule time away from your work.  Do not work six-day weeks! If you have decided to work Monday – Friday, then enjoy your Saturday and Sunday.  Do something you enjoy?  Read a book, hang out with your family, work in your yard, eat and hang out with family and friends.

*Talk to someone – It is okay to talk to a professional.  You are not weird.  Many folks have therapies.  If you have a friend, who you can speak to about your feelings, then give them a call. Remember, many of us, speak to our priest, therapists, and family on a regular basis.  Again this is not weird.

*Set boundaries – establishing work vs. life balances can be hard.  But it is very important to set boundaries.  When it is work time, then you should be working. When it is family time, then you should not be doing any work.

*Take care of yourself – do something fun at least once a week. Put it on your calendar, and update your email box to let everyone know that you are not in your office. Have fun, you earned it.

Conclusion

Life is too short for self-induced issues. Have fun and grow your business (organization).
