Gravity Forms, darn it solves so many problems !!!
One of my favorite plugins is Gravity Forms. It is a premium plugin (not free, it ranges from $59.00 – $259.00 annually), but I use it on the vast majority of my sites. Because of the high level of functionality, Gravity Forms tend to get me in trouble. Hints the title of my blog, Gravity Forms darn it.
A few weeks ago, I was approached about a re-design. The prospective client wanted to add a membership plugin to his site. I inquired about the reason for the need of a membership plugins. His site was not a membership site, he was selling three subscriptions. His customers would have the ability to add events to his calendar, pending his approval.
Not a good solution…
I advised my prospective client that a membership plugin was not a good solution. I recommended a dynamic form with the capability of accepting payment (from paypal, stripe, and/or authorize.net) and the ability to use the custom post type function (allow someone to post on your site, pending your approval).
This prospective client was very stubborn. He wanted a membership plugin (like it was the latest fashion statement). I quoted a re-design with membership plugin and support. The quote was about 25% higher with the membership plugin, and I was advised that the prospective was going with another agency.
Darn it, Gravity Forms!!!
Why would I do that…
Several months ago, I was at my local WordPress MeetUp. One of the participants was having some issues with her site. She wanted to have an email capture (she was sending out monthly newsletters) and wanted to add the visitors to her site as members. She had tooled with a couple of plugins, but was dealing with a lot of conflicting (or as I call it fighting) plugins.
I recommended Gravity Forms. She could set up email capture with either MailChimp, AWeber, and/or Constant Contact. She could add User Registration and it would populate all the visitors into her site. She hugged me, which was very awkward. She explained, ” I have been looking for a solution for six months. And in less than six minutes, you have me a solution.”
Gosh darn you (Gravity Forms)…
It is not a plugin crush…
Did I just start something new? Plugin crush…
Gravity Forms are awesome! They allow me to do Polls, Quizzes, Surveys, Payments, Email Captures, Custom Post Types, User Registration, and many more dynamic functions. I have set up receipts notification for clients. I have set up job board. I have set up directory. I have created calendar functions. It really is mind blowing all that Gravity Forms can create.
