What “Facebook Retargeting Ads” are and how they can grow your donation campaign?

In the midst of Covid-19 (Corona Virus), we at JDS WebDesign hope everyone is safe, washing their hands frequently, sneezing and coughing on their elbow, and practicing social distancing.  Over the next several weeks, we plan on blogging about making your website more business-friendly.  We will have some tutorials on our favorite plugins and features, which will make your site more efficient.

Facebook retargeting is a marketing strategy where you show your ads to people who are familiar with your brand. They’ve either previously visited your website or interacted with your Facebook or Instagram page. Simply put, retargeting shows your ads to people who already know about you. Its purpose is to try to get them to act.  Facebook has a page on how to create and expand your ads. They do all the heavy lifting, so your organization will need to understand Facebook Pixel and how it works.  But once your organization understands how Facebook Ads work, then your organization can use a very powerful tool to grow your donation campaign, called Facebook Retargeting Ads. What are the main objectives or features of Facebook Retargeting Ads?

Abandoned Donation Recovery

Facebook has a built-in tool called Facebook Abandoned Donation Recovery Tool. This tool knows everyone, who has been directed to your website URL or donation link on Facebook. But not only does it know who your visitors are, but it also can recognize if they made went to your purchase button. Since these are potential donors, who know your story, then they will showcase your donation link for another opportunity to possibly make a donation.

Engagement

Facebook retargeting ads will engage site visitors, who did not donate.  It is a recurring ad, that will show up to visitors, who know your story.  It will continue to populate its feeds to seek donations for your organization or campaign.  The ad will follow anyone and engage them in visual communication about your organization or campaign.  This is a second chance to finalize the donation. It is like holding a campaign in front of 100 potential donors and then being provided a second opportunity to push your organization or campaign.

Reactivating

Facebook ads reactivate lapse donors and allow your organization to create new opportunities.  This is a very powerful tool, which many marketing strategies have been using for years. It is available to anyone with a Facebook Business Page.  Your organization will need to create an ad. Once the ad campaign has ended, then a retargeting ad can be created. Your organization or campaign should have an awesome story and a call to action.  Do not have your visitors guessing how to donate to your organization, make sure that your call to action button is visible. Some Facebook retargeting ads use creative incentivization measures to get potential visitors to donate.
